Will I Get Extra Money on PIP in 2026?

If you're on Personal Independence Payment and wondering whether anything changed for you financially in 2026, the answer is yes — but it's more modest than a lot of people hoped. PIP rates went up in April, the disability cost of living payment ended in 2024, and there's a review of PIP underway that may shape things later in the year.

I'll cover all of it here.

PIP Rates Increased in April 2026

Social security benefits across the UK increased by 3.8% in April 2026, based on the September 2025 Consumer Prices Index (CPI) figure. PIP is included in this uprating.

Here are the new weekly rates:

Daily Living Component

RateWeekly amount
Standard£72.65
Enhanced£108.55

Mobility Component

RateWeekly amount
Standard£28.70
Enhanced£75.75

If you're on enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility — the maximum PIP award — you're receiving £184.30 per week, up from the previous rate. Over a month, that's around £798. It's a real increase, even if it doesn't feel transformative when bills are high.

What Happened to the Disability Cost of Living Payment?

Between 2023 and 2024, the government issued two separate Disability Cost of Living Payments of £150 each, specifically for people receiving PIP, Disability Living Allowance (DLA), or Attendance Allowance.

Those payments are finished. The DWP has confirmed no new disability-specific cost of living payments are planned for 2026.

I know that's disappointing. The £150 payments were meaningful for people with high disability-related costs — adapted equipment, specialist transport, care support that doesn't get cheaper just because the economy improves. The 3.8% rate rise is the compensation on offer, and I'd be misleading you if I said it fully replaces what those one-off payments provided.

The Timms Review — What PIP Claimants Should Know

The government launched a review of PIP in 2025, led by Minister Sir Stephen Timms. It's examining how the assessment criteria work and whether the system correctly identifies the people who need PIP.

The review is expected to report in 2026, and its findings could lead to changes in how PIP eligibility is assessed. This creates some uncertainty — for people currently on PIP, and for those applying.

What I'd say practically: if your award is coming up for review and you're anxious about changes, Citizens Advice and disability charities like Scope have guidance on navigating assessments under the current rules. Don't wait to see what the Timms Review recommends before checking whether your current award is correct.

What Other Support Can PIP Claimants Access in 2026?

PIP alone doesn't qualify you for everything. But PIP combined with other circumstances might.

Universal Credit and the LCWRA element

If you receive PIP and you're not working (or are working with health limitations), you may also be entitled to Universal Credit with a Limited Capability for Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) element. This adds significantly to your UC standard allowance.

Note: from April 2026, new Universal Credit claimants with LCWRA receive £50 per week rather than the previous £94. This change doesn't affect existing claimants who were already receiving the full rate before April 2026 — but it's something to be aware of if you're making a new claim.

Warm Home Discount

PIP alone does not qualify you for the Warm Home Discount. However, if you also receive Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, or Pension Credit, you may qualify through those means-tested benefits. If that's your situation, it's worth checking with your energy supplier whether you've been enrolled.

Attendance Allowance (if you're over State Pension age)

If you're over pension age and don't currently claim Attendance Allowance, this is worth looking into. AA is not means-tested and covers the same kind of care needs as PIP's daily living component. The DWP estimates significant numbers of eligible people never claim it.

Crisis and Resilience Fund

Your local council administers the Crisis and Resilience Fund for people in short-term financial difficulty. Being on PIP doesn't exclude you — it's about whether you're facing an immediate crisis with essentials like food, energy, or housing. Apply through your local council.

Check Your PIP Award Is Correct

This is something I mention because it genuinely matters. PIP awards are not always set at the right level, and many people have had successful mandatory reconsiderations or appeals after being initially awarded the standard rate when they were entitled to enhanced.

If your condition has worsened since your last assessment, or if you feel the assessment didn't accurately capture your needs on your worst days (not just an average), you can request a mandatory reconsideration. You have one month from the decision date, though this can be extended in some circumstances.

Citizens Advice, Scope, and Turn2us all offer guidance on PIP appeals. The success rate at tribunal for PIP cases is consistently high — around 67% of appeals succeed, according to tribunal service statistics.

What's Not Changing in 2026

There are no new one-off payments specifically for PIP claimants in 2026. The figures circulating on social media about £150, £450, or £280 cost of living payments for disability claimants are not accurate. The only payment changes are the 3.8% uprating that happened in April.
